Kari Frantz, BA, Registered Dental Hygienist, Certified Orofacial Myologist
Kari turned her love of art to a unique career in the medical field after obtaining a bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto. She spent several years employed at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto as a clinical photographer.
Kari’s compassion for children resulted in her desire to volunteer for medical missions to India and China with Operation Smile. This organization provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe. See some of Kari’s photos from these missions.
Kari decided to return to school and graduated top of her class with a diploma in dental hygiene February 2008.
After graduation, Kari moved north to work as a RDH in Whitehorse to get that ‘northern’ experience. A year later she moved to Calgary and since that time she has obtained her local anaesthetic module from University of Alberta to help make your dental appointment more comfortable.
She currently enjoys working as a hygienist in the fields of pediatrics and special needs and has always felt this was her calling. Kari continues to volunteer supporting local efforts with Healthy Mouth, Healthy Child-Alberta, and annually with Gift From The Heart at Lifetime Smiles Dental Hygiene Clinic.
She enjoys living and working in Calgary to be close to her family and to spend time skiing in the mountains. She also enjoys running, swimming and of course traveling the globe, seeking out something else wonderful to photography. Kari’s love of travelling has been enhanced since she learned to speak Spanish.
Kari has completed certification in orofacial myology. As active member of the International Association of Orofacial Myology , she provides treatment of myofacial disorders including mouth breathing, tongue thrust and abnormal swallowing. Continuing education and staying abreast of current concepts of oral care is very important to her.
